Evening Prayer

I will end this day with Jesus and Mary in my heart. I imagine turning to Jesus and feeling His gentle and loving spirit all around me. It's like He is quietly asking me to follow Him, to stay close.

And then there is Mary—so kind, so motherly—always ready to gently lead my thoughts back to Jesus.

Sweetest Mary, Mother mine!

Dear Jesus,

Please keep faith glowing in our hearts,
like a warm flame, full of love and mercy.
Help our parents reach their heavenly home,
and let them see the joy and goodness
You’ve planned for us.
Lead us all together
into Your shining Heaven one day,
so we can be with You forever,
praising You in the city of Zion.

Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary (The Angelic Salutation)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Florine was a little German girl, born sometime before 1850. We know almost nothing of her days—only that she once held a small handwritten prayer book, given to her by someone who must have loved her deeply. In the quiet of her evenings, perhaps she ended her days just as we do now—with her thoughts resting on Jesus and Mary. And though her voice has faded from the world, the prayers she once held close still shine with the light of faith.
